uconnect screen frozen

I've held down the volume and tuner knobs, but it just goes black and lights back up on the same screen when I let go. I could write for days about all of the problems with the 8.4 Uconnect radio and navigation systems. I have removed fuse F11 and F97 with no results. I can toggle the "transfer call" on the Uconnect screen and then it starts working again. It turned out to be a software bug in the Garmin software. I do not know what it should look like on a fully working UConnect system. I'd find it hard to believe a bad cable or graphics card driver would be culpable of such behaviour.
